Just returned from the China International Import Expo in November, Antonio Pernici took some time to tell us a little bit about the experience.
Let’s go find out about the tastes of the Chinese public.
Antonio, tell us all about it. Was this the first time for you in China? How did you find yourselves?
No, it was not the first time. I personally had a long experience in China, specifically in Shanghai. I lived there about 15 years ago.
I was attracted to a “distant world” but even then in full ferment. One could already sense the desire for redemption and growth in a country too often confined to being the far east. So I decided to open an office in Shanghai that would act as a conduit between our reality as a family business and the new world.
Coming back to today, I don’t deny that everything has evolved at a multiple speed compared to the European, and specifically Italian, reality, but one thing has certainly remained unchanged: the appeal that Made in Italy has on the Chinese market
The Chinese market is open but with very defined and particular tastes.
What Pernici products did you present?
We unveiled our new Elementi line, a new entry in our product range designed and engineered to win over a market attracted by fresh, smart but still essential and tasteful design, aware of the interest that fragrance arouses in the buyer.
CHINA IS A COUNTRY OF MANY POSSIBILITIES,
A HUGE MARKET WITH STRONG POTENTIAL.
What products were the most popular with the public, and what kind of response did you get from the people you met?
I can proudly confirm that their interest has focused on our flagship: the Tailoring Line, theWrapped Partridges.
They are unique candles in the world of which we are the only manufacturers, and they have achieved a success that I dare say was unexpected, almost as if it were a “new” product.
I remember that the wax sheet candle remains our trademark since 1892.
China today is now a key country for the world economy.
How did you decide to tackle this new challenge?
Try to explain it to us by choosing 3 key words.
China is a country of many possibilities, a huge market with strong potential.
However, I do not deny that there are quite a few trade barriers related to regulations in the country. Therefore, a response of high quality, service precision and customization of a product designed for the Chinese market is needed without forgetting the speed of implementation.
To sum up: customization, speed and precision.
